This is a resounding new victory for the Principality: Monaco has just been designated Best European Destination 2025 by European Best Destinations, a benchmark organisation associated with the European Commission. This prestigious title consecrates the Principality’s singularity and international renown. Each year, over 1 million travellers around the world vote for their favourite European cities. In 2025, Monaco topped the list after winning second place in 2024. A recognition even more remarkable since it makes the Principality the first French-speaking destination to win the title since Bordeaux in 2015. Factors which have won voters’ admiration include urban elegance, cultural richness, initiatives in sustainability and exceptional hospitality which characterise the city-state. In particular, tourists from the USA (42% of votes) and the UK (34%) showed their appreciation of Monegasque charm, seeing the Principality as a symbol of responsible luxury. This distinction ensures higher international visibility for Monaco, especially through influential media such as Forbes USA, Condé Nast Traveler and Yahoo. It also reflects the ongoing fruitful collaboration between the Tourism Department and European Best Destinations, aiming to strengthen Monaco’s presence on the global scene. For Guy Antognelli, Director of Tourism and Conferences, this reward “testifies to the collective commitment and outstanding quality of the work achieved by all players in tourism, as well as recent renovations carried out in numerous establishments”.
