Festival Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo

The ''Festival Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo'' has just celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024. As a partner of this renowned international music festival, CREM hands over the podium to its Artistic Director, Bruno Mantovani.

How would you describe the Printemps des Arts?

H.S.H. Princess Grace created the “International Arts Festival” in 1970. At that time it was multidisciplinary, tending towards the visual arts in order to fill a gap in that particular field. Presided over by H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover since 1984, the event, then renamed “Printemps des Arts,” took a musical turn under the leadership of my predecessor, Marc Monnet, who was also a composer. Nowadays not confined to any particular genre or era, the festival embraces all types of music, featuring concerts from the classical to the most unexpected - jazz, traditional music…, and set in a wide range of venues!

How do you create the festival's programme?

Since taking over in 2021, I have aimed to base the programme on a certain logic, a connection and a dialogue with other artistic disciplines - dance, poetry, photography, gastronomy, oenology and even perfumery this year. Imagining an arts season is like composing a piece of music. It must be structured, meaningful and pertinent. Everything is possible as long as it is significant. With the theme “My end and my beginning” adopted in 2022, eight centuries separated the Mass of Our Lady by Guillaume de Machaut and new scores by Yan Maresz and Bastien David. I link different eras whilst at the same time creating a path, notably through the stylistic evolution of composers over time. The Artistic Director's sensitivity is inevitably felt in a programme's creation… As in the creation of an artwork, it is a selfish act that must be shared!

What can we expect for the 2025 season?

We can already reveal the dates of the 41st festival, from March 12th to April 6th, 2025. The programme will be announced in December, though I can already say that the theme will be different from recent editions…
